Alkaline hydrolysis equipment
[Environment Daily] Dajeong Kang = The Rural Development Administration, has developed a 'livestock liquefaction treatment equipment' that can efficiently treat animal carcasses generated from livestock farms and the carcasses of dead animals are treated to prevent from disease propagation.

It is important to sterilize to prevent secondary pollution, but it is important to treat it firstly in the farm itself. The present small-scale rendering method, FRP reclamation and disposal method of the composting facility are very difficult to dispose of by-product and pollution source promptly.

The 'livestock liquefaction treatment device' developed by this company is a device that hydrolyzes animal carcasses with alkaline (KOH) solution and heat and pressure to make liquid substance (amino acid etc.) form. When hydrolysis process is done, virus in the carcasses completely dies. In particular, sterilization can be stably performed at low temperature and low pressure rather than high temperature and high pressure.

It is possible to treat not only animal carcasses but also pathogens within 2 hours faster than the conventional method (6 hours to 8 hours of incineration, 4 hours to 6 hours of rendering), and no pollutants are generated during the treatment, It can be recycled directly into soil remediation agents, fertilizers, feedstuffs, and industrial materials without further processing.

It can treat animals of various sizes ranging from small animals, experimental animals, dogs, cats, and chicken bodies to pigs and cows. It can be used in all animal breeding farms. The Rural Development Administration has applied patent for a livestock liquefaction treatment equipment and promoted industrialization by technical transfer.

"This equipment is the localized alkaline hydrolysis method recommended by advanced countries," said Juncheol Park Jun, Director of the National Livestock Research Institute of the Rural Development Administration.” It can treat animal carcasses in a farm promptly in a stable manner when an animal dies. Liquefaction treatments can be recycled as soil conditioners and are expected to help farmers to deal with animal carcasses.”
